Radio

In February 2022, I premiered an hourly, monthly show called Starving for Beauty on DKFM Shoegaze Radio, which focuses on shoegaze and dream pop. Based in LA, the award winning station is home to presenters from the US, Canada, the UK and Japan.

I’ve been a fan of the genre since my late teens so having the opportunity to welcome both Christian Savill of Slowdive and Miki Berenyi formerly of Lush—who came on to promote her memoir—as guests on special episodes was an absolute thrill.

Starving for Beauty

The name is taken from a quote by Andre Leon Talle (RIP), who famously said in the documentary The September Issue “My eyes are starving for beauty”. In this context, I like the idea of using it to evoke a sense of searching, seeking out new music to satiate us. Ultimately music brings beauty to our lives and shoegaze is a beautiful genre. The name is also a nod to my years as a beauty editor and to being a Libra, who is obsessed with and strives to surround themselves with beauty. The image of swirls of nail polish is from a photo shoot Natasha V did when I worked at FASHION Magazine and it works well with the genre, which is hazy, gauzy and atmospheric.

“We heard her make top-quality contributions to others’ shows, and felt we needed HER solo voice to help spread the gospel of beauty in sound."
